Sharing Hope, Joy, and Peace through the Arts

Reader’s corner God Bless America

September 11, 2001 was a tragic day for our nation. I captured this picture yesterday.

I’d say that it was a God thing. I was trying to capture a rainbow, but the Lord showed me His hand and hope for a future. We were driving down the road and I never saw the flag… that is until it appeared on my camera preview of the picture that I had just taken. I wrote this poem weeks after that fatal day in September. It speaks for itself. May the Lord add His blessings to my words.

Torn Asunder

The black claw of death

Gripped our nation

Threatening to choke the life

Right out of her

But, United we stand

And our flags flying high

Determined to defend her or die

Dark was the day

That our innocence fled

As terror overtook our skies

The twin towers stood tall

The tallest of all

Stood tall in magnificent grandeur

As they came down

In a black plume of smoke

Humanity rose from her ashes

Free enterprise was there

From executive to server

The tall and the small and the proud

We will not bow down

To the terrorists’ bondage

For we are the brave and the free

Those souls that were lost

Such a high price to pay

But the goodness within them

Built a tower that day

With a foundation built on the best

New York’s finest were there

Running hard into danger

And we will never forget

No greater gift could one give

Than to lay his life for his friend

He’ll receive his reward in the end

Wisdom cries out

Her voice to be heard

God is in control

Then justice chimes in

Announcing Him

God will make things right

Vengeance is mine

Thus saith the Lord

I will repay my enemies

Burning up the dross

And redeeming the lost

With love, and with peace

And with mercy

Let not iniquity say

I have had my day

For you’ve not weighed the cost

Shot straight to Hell

In the fiery ball

Now dead in the fiery inferno

Yes, our innocence died

And America cried

That bleak and dark day in September
